DIAMONDS
The diamond has always been regarded as a symbol of strength and innocence, and beauty. Considered mysterious and magical, the diamond has been the ultimate token of love starting as far back as the 15th century when the first diamond engagement ring was placed on the fourth finger of the left hand. Today, diamonds remain the most desired stone not only for the symbolism they represent, but also for their enduring beauty and supreme value.
There are four factors used in determining the value of a diamond, often referred to as the "4-C's" - Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat Weight. However, no two diamonds are alike and each has its own unique character, which can often make diamond shopping a daunting experience. At Moss Antiques, we take great pride in making this special experience enjoyable by helping our customers learn about these unique traits and guiding them to their perfect selection. We have a highly trained and friendly staff ready to answer questions and share their knowledge and expertise throughout the process. Because there are so many nuances to the characters of diamonds, we recommend you always buy from a professional jeweler with an excellent reputation for service and integrity. Furthermore, your bill of sale should always spell out exactly what you have purchased. At Moss Antiques, these are things we consider with each customer and you should always look for similar establishments when making a diamond purchase.
At Moss Antiques, we also feature an extensive collection of antique and estate diamond jewelry made with antique diamonds. Many of the diamonds used in antique pieces are Old Mine and Old European cut diamonds as they were the cuts in vogue from 1850 through 1931. Old Mine cut diamonds are unique as compared to other gems as they are flat on the bottom as opposed to being pointy in nature. This was done to allow more light into the diamond, which produces a colorful, brilliant result. Old European cut diamonds are slightly rounder and closer to a modem-day brilliant cut diamond.
